Zanotta

Zanotta is an esteemed Italian furniture manufacturer founded in 1954 by Aurelio Zanotta in Nova Milanese. Initially focused on traditional upholstery, the brand quickly embraced a visionary mindset, treating furniture as cultural expression rather than mere utility. From early on, Zanotta championed experimentation with new materials, such as expanded polyurethane foam and frameless structures, beginning in the 1960s. Collaborating with more than 140 designers from around the world including luminaries like Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Ettore Sottsass, Gae Aulenti, Marco Zanuso, Alessandro Mendini, and Joe Colombo, Zanotta produced iconic designs such as the Mezzadro stool, the inflatable Blow chair, the Sciangai coat rack, and the pioneering Sacco bean bag chair. The Sacco, introduced in 1968, remains a symbol of informal, adaptable living and has won the Compasso d’Oro award in 2020. Zanotta’s broad catalogue now includes sofas, armchairs, beds, tables, chairs, storage units, lighting, mirrors, and accessories, often crafted by mixing metals, woods, stone, and plastics. Its experimental division, Zanotta Edizioni (formerly Zabro), established in the 1980s, produces limited-edition pieces that blur the line between art and design.
